County Sells 1010 Central To LAPS Credit Union

The Los Alamos Public Schools Credit Union is getting a new home – right next to the Los Alamos County Municipal Building.

Los Alamos County Council unanimously approved the sale of 1010 Central Ave., a stretch of green space that runs along the parking lot in front of the Municipal Building, during its regular Tuesday night meeting.

ALAMORGORDO An Educator’s Evening is planned at the New Mexico Museum of Space History beginning at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16 in the Tombaugh Education Building on the museum’s campus.

CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot

The CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot held Sunday Nov. 24, raised more than $12,000 for hunger concerns after expenses.

Twenty-five percent of that amount went to supporting the local food bank L.A. Cares. The remaining money raised for CROP/Church World Service supports work in global and domestic relief of hunger and poverty, and relief following natural disasters.

This coming year will see a lot of building activity on DP Road. The two affordable housing projects – Canyon Walk and The Bluffs apartment complexes – are slated to begin construction.

Los Alamos Little Theatre’s latest production “The Neverending Story” opens 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Performing Arts Center.
 
The production is produced by Elisa Enriquez and directed by seasoned director Mimi Adams. Something special about this show is that 10 percent of profits will be donated to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico, Adams said.

The large cast is more than half kids ages 5 to 16.

Uriah Cachora recently moved into a newly created position at Enterprise Bank and Trust. Her title is Assistant Vice President for Community Development and her mission is community outreach and education.

“This position was created for a person with ties to Northern New Mexico and who understood the market,” Cachora said.

Dr. Siegfried Hecker will give his annual talk on the state of nuclear arms control and world politics, 7 p.m., Jan. 11 at the Alice and Lawry Mann Lecture.
 
Hecker served as the fifth director of Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1986 to 1997, and is now a senior fellow emeritus at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.

He has spoken to a full house each year he has returned to Los Alamos for this event. Come early for the best seating!

For anyone desiring inspiration for this year's garden or landscaping, now is the time to register for the Master Gardener course offered by the Los Alamos County and New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service.

Classes begin Feb. 4 and run through April 25, 6-9 p.m. each Tuesday in Fuller Lodge, and are open to anyone who desires to learn more about gardening.

Each of the 13 classes will be taught by specialists from New Mexico State University and Los Alamos County Agent – Carlos Valdez.
