SFNF Offices Close For Memorial Day Monday

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Forest offices will resume regular business hours Tuesday.
 
Last year, SFNF fire personnel found 84 abandoned campfires over the three-day Memorial Day weekend in spite of Stage 2 fire restrictions, which prohibited campfires and other activities.
 
This year, after a winter with above-average moisture and snowpack, conditions on the forest are much different, and there are currently no fire restrictions on the SFNF. But fire managers are asking

Winter simply doesn’t want to let go this year. It has turned cold and it could even freeze this late in the spring. That would be a bummer because it looks like a bumper crop of fruit this year.
 
The weather should warm back up quickly The rivers are still swollen with runoff and with snow still falling at high elevations, it looks like we could be well into June before they start dropping. It’s been on heck of a year with the weather and it’s still not over.

Pajarito Mountain Ski Area kicks off its summer season 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8 with lift-served mountain biking and hiking.
 
The mountain will feature some exciting new events and fun activities all summer long.

SANTA FE The USDA Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy’s Rio Grande Water Fund and the Forest Stewards Guild have worked together since September 2018 using prescribed fire across over 4,700 acres to protect water sources, wildlife, and forests while reducing wildfire risk.
 
These forests are adapted to fire and need low-intensity burns to remain healthy. The All Hands All Lands Burn Team (Burn Team) is a fully qualified team designed to lead prescribed burns or support others in burning across a variety of land jurisdictions. This is an innovative step forward
