Mission Street Arts Launches Jemez Springs Newest Artist-In-Residence Program Saturday May 25

JEMEZ SPRINGS News:
 
Jemez Springs’s newest artist-in-residence and community outreach program is hosting a launch event at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the Jemez Springs Public Library.
 
The location of the program is a property Mike Murphy left to his daughters at his death in 2014. He started Mission Street Arts as a studio and gallery space.
 
Mission Street Arts is now owned and operated by Devin Williams and Eva Murphy, and managed by artist Billy Ehret. They are furthering his vision and enthusiasm for many many artistic disciplines.

Toppers Well Represented On All District Teams

The 2-4A District Baseball and Softball All District Teams have been announced and the Toppers were well represented. The teams were selected by the coaches and officials in District 2-4A. Antonio Gonzales took the top prize by being selected to be Player of the Year for District 24A. Topper baseball head coach Bryan Neal was selected for the top coach of the year. The Topper baseball team had five players on the first team. The players selected to the second team are: Taylor Drake, Walker Eaton, Luke Kirkland, and Grant Watkins. The Softball team was also well represented placing fourth on the

Local Senior Centers Promote Red Nose Day

COMMUNITY News:
 
The White Rock and Betty Ehart Senior Centers are collecting canned goods and other non-perishable items this week to promote Red Nose Day Thursday, May 23.
 
The NBC special will raise funds to end childhood hunger.
 
Items suggested for donation include lunch and snack items that may assist local programs for children that need assistance.
 
Questions can be answered by center directors, who are rumored to have the red noses, which may be seen throughout the week.

DURANGO, Colo. Purgatory Resort will add its name to a short list of U.S. resorts spinning lifts during Memorial Day weekend when it opens for a bonus weekend of skiing this Saturday and Sunday.
 
May 25 will not only mark the kickoff to summer but also the first time in resort history Purgatory has opened for skiing on the last weekend in May.

SFCC And HEC To Close For Memorial Day

SANTA FE Santa Fe Community College and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will be closed Monday, May 27, in honor of Memorial Day.
 
No classes or activities will be held and no other student services will be available. The college’s early childhood development center, Kids Campus, and the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center also will be closed.
 
SFCC and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will reopen Tuesday, May 28. SFCC’s William C. Witter Fitness Education Center will reopen at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. Summer and Fall 2019 Credit and Continuing Education

SANTA FE The USDA Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy’s Rio Grande Water Fund and the Forest Stewards Guild have worked together since September 2018 using prescribed fire across over 4,700 acres to protect water sources, wildlife, and forests while reducing wildfire risk.
 
These forests are adapted to fire and need low-intensity burns to remain healthy. The All Hands All Lands Burn Team (Burn Team) is a fully qualified team designed to lead prescribed burns or support others in burning across a variety of land jurisdictions. This is an innovative step forward
