AFT New Mexico Reacts To Naming Of New PED Secretary-Designate

AFT News:
ALBUQUERQUE American Federation of Teachers New Mexico President Stephanie Ly released the following statement:
“We are encouraged Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has worked swiftly to fill the vacancy of Secretary-Designate at the NM Public Education Department. Her focus on improving educational outcomes in New Mexico is critical to the success of our State as a whole.
“Dr. Ryan Stewart’s commitment to public education is clear, and we are heartened with his prior work as an educator and administrator in public schools. His policy expertise on induction and teacher training is an attribute that will help to benefit New Mexico’s public education system and ensure we are developing a strong pipeline of highly qualified educators for all students to address New Mexico’s historic levels of teacher vacancies.
“We look forward to working with Dr. Stewart, and continuing our work with the NM PED under the administration of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. In just eight short months, deep systemic changes are already starting to take place, and we hope that Dr. Stewart’s vision is to continue those changes alongside educators for the benefit of our students, families, and communities we serve.”
